IMF wants El Salvador to reconsider Bitcoin exposure: Community reaction

One community member interpreted the IMF’s move as a way to “scare other countries away” from adopting Bitcoin as a legal tender. The community responded to the IMF’s suggestion with various messages calling out the organization. In a tweet, one community member argued that IMF’s move is a way to “scare other countries away” from the example that El Salvador has set. ApeCoin leads in NFT and Metaverse market share, but are APE’s hefty staking rewards sustainable?

Image
The ApeCoin ecosystem is progressing with games and brand-building, but the 100% APY reward for APE staking could eventually do more damage than good. In January, ApeCoin (APE) had an underwhelming performance compared to metaverse-based tokens like Decentraland (MANA) and The Sandbox (SAND). APE token gained 61% compared to the 90% and 150% respective gains seen in SAND and MANA. The subdued gains can be attributed to the hefty APE staking rewards that is likely creating some selling pressure. An upcoming unlock of around 9% of APE’s circulating supply in March 2023, along with not-so-impressive fundamentals, will add further headwinds for the token. The gains in APE will depend on the success of the blockchain gaming projects in the ApeCoin ecosystem and new partnerships between Yuga Labs and big brands. Traders take advantage of oversized APE staking rewards ApeCoin DAO launched its APE staking mechanism in December 2022. The APE staking pool yielded 90% annual returns in the first...

Stiffing the Staker: The SEC's Latest Crackdown on Crypto Innovation

The crypto world was jolted last week when the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shut down Kraken’s staking program, much to the satisfaction of Chairman Gary Gensler and his team. But what does this mean for the future of cryptocurrency and, more specifically, staking? The following opinion editorial was written by Bitcoin.com’s Business Development Manager Ben Friedman. Balancing Regulation and Innovation in the Crypto World: Staking at the Crossroads Staking, the act of retaining a specific amount of a particular cryptocurrency in a wallet and taking part in the validation of transactions on the network, is one of the most discussed topics in the digital asset world today. And for good reason. Staking has been promoted as the answer to several challenges facing the cryptocurrency ecosystem, including scalability, decentralization, and security. But just as staking was beginning to gain momentum, the threat of overregulation rears its ugly head. The SEC...

JPMorgan: Ethereum Staking Ratio will Increase In Medium term

Ethereum’s ( ETH ) staking ratio is currently at 14%. However, JPMorgan believes Ethereum’s upcoming Shanghai upgrade will increase the network’s staking ratio in the middle term. The financial giant said that ETH ’s ratio has plenty of space to rise. This is because the average for other proof-of-stake (PoS) networks is nearly four times as high. As per the data, the validator count might rise from 0.5 million to 2.2 million. Moreover, the return would drop from the present 7.4% to about 5% if the staking ratio eventually heads to the 60% average of other significant PoS networks. Furthermore, the JPMorgan analysis states that future staking will move to liquid staking protocols, such as Lido on the Ethereum blockchain. The research emphasized how these protocols enable staked assets to have liquidity. These assets would otherwise be locked in staking contracts. Such protocols do this by “providing an equal amount of derivative token in exchange for st...

In mid-December, however, the firm abruptly decided to temporarily cut ties with its crypto clients. At that time, a Binance spokesperson affirmed that the exchange intended to provide additional transparency and was looking into the best way to reveal details in the coming months. Before the ties were suspended, Binance did release a report based on a snapshot review by Mazars. However, that did not account for a full financial audit and was eventually taken down. However, Leon Foong, Binance’s Asia-Pacific Head recently told Bloomberg in an interview that the exchange is seeking to release an expanded PoR statement. As far as an exhaustive audit of its books is concerned, it...
